Angel of the Month May - Slam Cooke
Slam Cooke comes to Angel City by way of Chicago and we are so happy that the Windy City blew her in our direction! Slam is an incredibly tenacious, dedicated and positive member of ACDG. Like her namesake, she is soulful, an enthusiastic cheerleader for everyone, first to introduce herself to new girls and often after finishing drills she will keep skating with those who are behind to make sure everyone finishes together. She truly loves the sport and all of the people playing in it. She is an extremely hard worker with a demanding job and she will often work late into the night and then come straight to practice. Slam is an active volunteer, going above and beyond by taking on responsibilities for Eat Your Art Out and is the day-to-day Social Media Manager for the Marketing Committee. Despite work commitments that kept her away from derby for a while, she has worked hard on the track to successfully pass her Fresh Meat minimum skills and she continues to grow as a skater and a very important league member. Slam, nothing can change this love we have for you!

Viewing party: Hollywood Scarlets vs. Wheels of Justice!

The Angel City charter team, the Hollywood Scarlets will be taking on Portland’s best, the Wheels of Justice from the Rose City Rollers!

The battle begins on Sunday at HIGH NOON and is a PRIVATE closed bout at ACDG’s training facility, Angel City Headquarters.

The ONLY way to see it is to go to Molly Malone’s in Los Angeles and watch it on the TVs there with other Los Angeles roller derby fans! Head over there a little early so you don’t miss any of the action!

There will be pizza, beer specials and prizes for whoever can guess the final score!

The teams will head to the bar shortly after the game ends!

Angel of the Month March - Mad Dog McGillicuddy‬

Mad Dog McGillicuddy is Angel City Derby Girl’s Wonder Woman, Cruise Director, Jackie of All Trades, and Hostess With The Mostest. Most importantly, she is a beloved member of ACDG. Mad Dog began skating with ACDG six years ago, and immediately understood that it takes a lot more than a desire to skate to put on a roller derby event. From the beginning, Mad Dog enthusiastically rolled up her sleeves and signed up for many volunteer shifts. When she wasn’t skating, back in the old school, down and dirty style derby bouts, she was there helping to sell cans of soda out of a tub of ice. Her talents for running our events were quickly realized, and she soon became the head of our Events committee. From hosting outdoor games in NoHo, to the Toyota Sports Center, Mad Dog kept offering to help and slowly but surely, hand-in-hand with a few loyal and dedicated minions, has improved the bout experience every time out. Now Mad Dog helps host our games at our new home in Culver City, further proving that every big step ACDG takes, Mad Dog is right there to support it. At every turn, she steps up to deliver the logistics and improve the experience for skaters, officials, volunteers, and the paying audience. Mad Dog does this tirelessly, seemingly effortlessly, and always with that amazing smile on her face. Every incredible ACDG event, from bouts to fundraisers to viewing parties, is due in large part to her Superwomanly prowess behind the scenes. Mad Dog’s enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work inspires every single member of ACDG. And we all know that without Mad Dog, we’d literally be skating in the dark.
